TRACK BIOGRAPHY In 1968, the dirt surface was removed and paved over, and again in 1988 the track was reconfigured to the current 3/4 mile oval layout. Richmond is unique in that it is the only track with a 3/4 mile layout, and NASCAR has continued to make two trips to the track since 1958.
