Are picnics allowed in Richmond Park?
We welcome informal picnics in the Royal Parks. However, please be aware that the Parks can get very busy during the summer, which limits available space. The Parks are used by many people for different reasons, and we are unable to allow any one group exclusive rights to an area.
Can I BBQ in Richmond Park?
Barbecues and open fires are not allowed in Richmond Park as they can damage the grassland and trees, and their wildlife, as well as being a safety risk.
Is Richmond Park free to visit?

Can I have a picnic in Regents Park?
Have a picnic in Regents Park. At Regent’s Park, you can have a picnic with a maximum amount of 40 guests. It’s a great place to pitch up with friends and enjoy food while soaking up the glorious views (especially at Primrose Hill) and indulging yourself in the nature surrounding you.

Are picnics allowed in the park?
Answer: Social and recreational activities, such as picnicking, are allowed in our parks and gardens with no restrictions on group size.
Is alcohol allowed in Richmond parks?
No alcoholic beverages are to be dispensed, sold or consumed in the park at any time. No vehicles are permitted to be on the grass at any time.
Is it legal to BBQ in a park?
Southwark – The only park in Southwark where you can have a barbeque is Burgess Park. Sutton – Barbeques can be used at Roundshaw Downs and Roundshaw Park. Barbeques are only permitted on one of two designated stands. Tower Hamlets – This council also does not allow BBQs in their parks and open spaces.
Can you drink in Richmond Park?
We have no objection to alcoholic drinks, but they must be available free of charge (i.e. not for sale), and for consumption by your guests only.

Can I take photos in Richmond Park?
Any filming, photography or audio recording that takes place in parks requires permission from The Royal Parks before it can go ahead and, in most cases, will incur a fee. Filming and photography for personal use is permitted by The Royal Parks.
What is the best time to visit Richmond Park?
At the weekends, especially during spring and summer, the park will be packed with families and tourists. Usually the best time to visit, if you want to avoid the crowds, is first thing in the morning (before 10am) or in the evening when everyone is heading home (7pm or later).
Can you picnic at Garden of the Gods?
There are two uncovered picnic areas in Garden of the Gods Park. The picnic areas are used on a first come-first serve basis. Reservations are not taken for picnic areas.
Can I take a picnic to National Trust?
Yes, visitors may bring their own food and drink. Please don’t leave any litter behind.
Can you have picnics at the Royal Botanic gardens?
Groups of all sizes (up to 300 people) can book a picnic spot. By booking a picnic site you are able to bring into the Garden additional infrastructure.
What should you not bring to a picnic?
Potato, pasta and tuna salad dressed in mayo and kept in warm temperatures can spoil the party. These salads need to be kept cold — at 41 degrees or below — otherwise they can make picnickers sick. Once again, storage can be a problem, especially when it comes to raw fish.

Can you carry a knife for a picnic?
If you are tempted to have a picnic this summer and you wish to take a sharp knife with you for use during the picnic then it is important that you keep that knife with the picnic itself, so that knife is clearly identified as being part and parcel of the picnic equipment.
Can we picnic now?
While social and recreation activities in parks are allowed for groups of 2, NParks has advised visitors against having picnics so as to curb the spread of COVID-19. If you do need to eat out at parks, just remember to avoid crowded places and practise safe distancing.
Do and don’ts in public park?
Leave any litter in the park even if a basket is provided there. Take out the trash with you. Enter the park if under the influence of alcohol. Take babies, small children or pets.
