Cambridge examiners are teachers or experts in their subject, and they are carefully selected and trained. It is vital that they all mark to the same standard so that we can award the right mark to every candidate every time. After all the marking has been done, we set the grades.
How are Cambridge papers marked?
A*(a*) is the highest grade and G(g) the lowest. ‘UNGRADED’ shows that the candidate failed to reach the standard required for grade G(g). For some Cambridge IGCSE syllabuses, we report ‘TO BE ISSUED’ to show that the result will be awarded in the November series.
How Cambridge exams are graded?
A candidate’s overall score is calculated by adding all of the individual scores together and dividing by four (and then rounding to the nearest whole number). A candidate’s grade and CEFR level are based on their performance across the whole test, and there is no requirement to achieve a minimum score in each paper.
