International alcohol shipments are permitted to be shipped only via FedEx Express services. FedEx International Ground® service may never be used for international alcohol shipments. Both the importer and exporter must be licensed entities.
Can you mail alcohol from USA to Canada?
Shipping alcoholic beverages through a courier is permitted, however, duty will be collected on the entire shipment (there is no duty exemption for alcohol not accompanying a traveler), and the courier will probably charge handling and Customs Broker fees that could significantly raise the cost of the shipment.

USPS prohibits all shipments of beer, spirits, and wine both domestically and internationally. USPS also has strict laws on the packaging for shipments that previously carried alcohol. If a package has any labels or branding of an alcohol company, USPS will not process the shipment and reject it.

That being said, it is important to know that there are consequences if you are caught and that shipping alcohol is at your own risk. Typically, you’ll get a written warning on an initial violation. Subsequent violations could lead to fines and or, gulp, jail time, so be mindful and be smart.

Alcoholic beverages with more than 24% but not more than 70% alcohol are limited in checked bags to 5 liters (1.3 gallons) per passenger and must be in unopened retail packaging. Alcoholic beverages with 24% alcohol or less are not subject to limitations in checked bags.
Can I send alcohol abroad by courier?
If sending abroad, the alcohol content must not exceed 24%, which rules out most spirits. Beer, lager, wine and champagne, as long as they are 24% ABV or less, can be sent internationally.
How do you hide alcohol when shipping?
Here’s what I do:
- I try to avoid using a single bottle wine shipper.
- Wrap the styrofoam container in several sheets of newspaper, as well as the bottles to avoid “sqeakyness”.
- Add a small container of loose jellybeans to your wine shipment to mask that god awful liquid sloshing sound.
How do I gift an alcohol package?
Place your bottle of liquor in an empty box so it isn’t obvious what your gift is. Wrap the box with wrapping paper and you’re ready to give your gift. If you don’t want the bottle to move around in the box, you can stuff some packing material like newspaper or gift tissue paper.
